Abuse of personal information: companies in the front line

Due to come into force by 2018, new European regulations on the protection of personal information will have a major organisational and technical impact on companies: classification of data, governance, supervision… Particular efforts will need to be made in all these areas to ensure compliance with the new legislation. Companies will especially be required to appoint a DPO (Data Protection Officer) and could face colossal fines if they breach the law: up to 4% of their turnover.
The aim of the debate will be to offer a reminder of the main terms of the regulations, the way in which companies will need to reorganise, and the role of the CISO in this new context: will he be the next DPO? If so, how should his or her responsibilities be reassessed? If not, how will the DPO and CISO work together to ensure compliance with the legislation while guaranteeing the security and integrity of the company’s data?
